
KUALA LUMPUR, 12 August – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) continues to strengthen its position as a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) innovation in the ASEAN region through its participation in the Superbooth of the ASEAN Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit 2025 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur.
Director of Putra Science Park (PSP), UPM, Prof. Dr. Samsilah Roslan, said that UPM’s participation this year is part of the UPM-DNB AI Sandbox initiative, a strategic collaboration between UPM and Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) aimed at translating AI research into real-world solutions.
“Through this platform, UPM is showcasing five high-impact research projects covering diverse fields such as smart agriculture, urban technology, and agricultural product quality control.
“Among the innovations presented are a study by Prof. Ir. Dr. Aduwati Sali from the Institute for Mathematical Research (INSPEM) on geographic mapping for the Peatland Forest Fire Index; an eco-friendly smart traffic light technology by Dr. Azree Shahrel Ahmad Nazri from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FSKTM); a rice health monitoring system by Dr. Noris Mohd Norowi from FSKTM; the use of G-NDVI for crop stress detection by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Puteri Suhaiza Sulaiman from FSKTM; and a smart fruit quality detector by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norhashila Hashim from the Faculty of Engineering,” she said.

The ASEAN AI Summit 2025 was officially launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who also visited UPM’s booth.

She added that UPM’s involvement reflects its strong commitment to advancing AI research and innovation that delivers positive impact to society, industry, and the nation, while also strengthening regional strategic networks in line with UPM’s aspiration to be a world-class university.
