SERDANG, 17 August 2025-The Internal Audit Division of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) received a delegation from the Internal Audit Unit (UAD) of the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) for an engagement session and sharing of best practices in internal audit management.

The session served as a platform for knowledge and experience sharing between the two organisations in efforts to strengthen audit quality, governance, internal controls and risk management. IKIM’s Internal Audit Unit, which officially began operations in October 2020, currently consists of an Auditor who serves as the Head of the Unit and an Assistant Auditor.
Among the main areas discussed were UPM Internal Audit Division’s approach in developing a risk-based Annual Audit Plan, the mechanism for monitoring audit issues through the use of an Audit Dashboard, as well as the implementation of a Quality Assurance and Improvement Programme based on the Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS).

The sharing session on the Audit Dashboard also provided the IKIM delegation with insights into the use of technology and data analytics in monitoring the status of auditee actions in a more systematic manner. This approach supports more effective management reporting and enhances the monitoring of audit issues.
Both parties also exchanged views on current challenges facing the internal audit profession and the need to continuously enhance officers’ competencies in line with technological developments, digitalisation and evolving professional standards.
The engagement session reflects the commitment of IKIM’s Internal Audit Unit and UPM’s Internal Audit Division to continuously share best practices and strengthen professional networks. Such initiatives are expected to add value to the internal audit function and contribute towards stronger governance practices in both institutions.
