UNIVERSITY’S GOVERNANCE SUSTAINABILITY SEMINAR PROGRAM

Serdang, June 2nd - The University’S Governance Sustainability Seminar Program was held at the Rashdan Baba Auditorium, Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research, and Innovation. This program was organized by the Registrar's Office in collaboration with the Internal Audit Division and was attended by the University's Management Committee and Senior Officers.

This program was inaugurated by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Industry and Community Network), YBhg. Prof. Ir. B.T. Hang Tuah Baharudin, representing the Vice Chancellor, YH. Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd Roslan Sulaiman.

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Industry and Community Network), YBhg. Prof. Ir. B.T. Hang Tuah Baharudin quoted that this program is part of the ongoing efforts held by the university to raise awareness amongst university’s officials regarding the importance of good governance practices.

The program started with a keynote speech by YBhg. Dato' Dr Hasan Mad, Member of the UPM Board of Directors and Chairman of the UPM Audit Committee. He said, UPM has a history and excellent performance since its establishment. UPM has also produced many famous figures in the country and abroad.

YBhg. Dato' Dr Hasan Mad has also advised UPM to be prepared in dealing with Megatrend IPT. Universities needed to be able to produce holistic graduates, professors, and administrators for national and global needs. He suggested that the Registrar's Office develop a certified (chartered) modular leadership program to ensure that UPM administrators have the necessary competency as a leader.

 

In addition, a forum session was also held on Strengthening Governance and Work Processes Towards Organizational Sustainability conducted by the Head of UPM's Internal Audit Division, Mrs. Zainora Abdul Talib. The members of the forum panel consisted of the Chairman of the UPM Audit Committee, YBhg. Dato' Dr. Hasan Mad, UPM Registrar, Mr. Muhazam Mansor, and Legal Adviser Officer (Executing Legal Adviser Functions), Mr. Muhammad Adil Ahmad Tajuddin.

 

During the forum session several suggestions were presented to improve the governance of the university. Among the suggestions presented is the need to develop a structured module to equip administrators with the necessary knowledge including the fields of management, finance, and law. The administrator has an important role including giving the right advice to the Head of PTJ. In addition, there is a suggestion that the action to resolve the reported audit issues be used as a KPI for the Administrator and Head of PTJ to improve governance in all PTJ.
