Bangi, 6 May 2025 – The Internal Audit Unit of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) organized the Global Internal Audit Standards Course, which brought together internal audit officers from UKM, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). The course aimed to enhance understanding and appreciation of global standards in the internal auditing field in line with the new framework introduced by The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).

The learning session was conducted by Ms. Nur Hayati Baharuddin, a Quality Assurance Assessor with extensive experience in quality management and internal auditing. She guided participants through the latest structure of the Global Internal Audit Standards, which consists of 5 domains, 15 principles, and 52 standards that serve as the foundation for professional auditing practices at the international level.
This course also served as a platform for knowledge sharing, best practices, and critical discussions on the implementation of these standards within the context of public higher education institutions (IPTAs). Participants took the opportunity to understand methods for adapting global standards to the internal audit structures of their respective universities.

Previously, in 2023, the internal audit functions of UPM, UKM, and UiTM received an overall rating of ‘Generally Conforms’ with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (IPPF) by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
The organization of this course reflects the ongoing commitment of public university internal audit units to strengthen professionalism, transparency and the effectiveness of internal audit functions, in line with the principles of good governance and value creation for their organizations.
