SERDANG, December 19 – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is strengthening its food security agenda through the strategic action plan, the Food Security Blueprint, which is now a key reference in addressing global issues at both the university and Asia-Pacific community levels.

This action plan was presented at the 5th Asia-Pacific University-Community Engagement Network (APUCEN) Summit 2024, recently held in Chongqing, China.

The summit emphasized the role of universities in improving the quality of life for communities through strategic collaborations and community contributions that can have a lasting and significant impact.

In his keynote speech titled Security Agenda: Humanising Technology for Community Empowerment, UPM Vice Chancellor, Dato’ Prof. Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah, highlighted innovative approaches to developing the Food Security Blueprint.

"This Blueprint is designed to serve as a guide for graduates in enhancing community well-being through a sustainable approach to food security issues," he said.

He stressed that food security is crucial to ensure an adequate, high-quality, and nutritious food supply to meet the dietary needs of active and healthy communities.

He further emphasized that universities must play an important role in addressing food security challenges through education, research, and the development of sustainable strategies. These efforts not only support the national agenda but also make a significant impact at the regional level.

With its focus on innovation and community involvement, UPM's Food Security Blueprint has been recognized as a model that can be emulated by universities across the Asia-Pacific region in facing global food security challenges.
