PANDEMICS HELP CIVIL SERVANTS MORE RESPONSIBILITY

During the implementation of the Movement Control Order (PKP) nationwide which lasted a year last Thursday, much can be discussed about the role and significant contribution of civil servants to the people and the country.

Despite the serious health and economic crisis we face, civil servants remain intact and perform their duties with full confidence.

Although we are going through the phases of PKP, PKP Bersyarat (PKPB) and PKP Pemulihan (PKPP), the role of civil servants has never been affected or diminished.

In retrospect, the PKP was announced when the new National Alliance (PN) government was just over two weeks old, while politicians and the people were still struggling to find answers to the political crisis.

However, civil servants continued their duties as usual. This is proven when all government services function smoothly, then the people enjoy efficient services with fair and just treatment.

As the new PN government began its administration, civil servants continued to be the mainstay of supporting the responsibilities entrusted to them.

The same is true when we start the ‘war’ against COVID-19. The implementation of the PKP halted the operation of almost all sectors of the economy and the pandemic forced the people to remain at home to cut off the spread, but civil servants continued to serve.

Most significantly, civil servants in the health and safety sector as the front line in dealing with virus attacks to date. They work day and night without adequate leave or rest, and even face various risks, including life threatening, in order to protect the people.

Teachers, on the other hand, are seen to play an important role throughout the PKP to ensure that children of the nation do not drop out of school, especially those who sit for major examinations.

When the school had to be closed for a long time, teachers did not sit still at home but continued to look for alternatives to continue the Teaching and Learning at Home (PdPR) sessions.

The creativity and seriousness of teachers is evident when using various digital platforms, e-learning and social media to continue the learning sessions.

Other groups of civil servants continue to perform their duties with full dedication from home.

The Work From Home Policy was introduced, thus becoming the best platform to continue working from home to ensure that the government's administrative machinery and service delivery system to the people work.

In a situation where the new norm is centered on the digitization of public services, the people can enjoy faster and more efficient services.

Clearly, civil servants have made quite significant contributions throughout the implementation of the PKP since a year ago. Rest assured this contribution will continue indefinitely.

In fact, the significant contribution of civil servants is greatly influenced by neutrality, mature and professional thinking as well as the awareness of taking responsibility based on the mantra of Serving the Nation.

Civil servants are the lifeblood and backbone of the government's success, especially in looking after the welfare and protecting the safety of the people.

The health and economic crisis is not over yet but the welfare and safety of the people must be preserved and given priority.

Only civil servants can be the bridge between the government and the people, especially to implement initiatives and deliver the assistance provided, including through various economic stimulus packages.

We hope that the government and the people continue to place full trust and confidence in civil servants in order to help realize all the targets and goals set.
