CYBER BULLYING: SELF PROTECTION ACTIONS AND MEASURES

Cyberbullying refers to the use of digital technology to harass, intimidate, or damage someone's reputation. This can happen through various online platforms such as social media, email, text messages, and websites.

 

Examples of Actions Considered Cyber ​​Bullying

  1. Public Insult or Humiliation: Spreading comments or messages that insult or embarrass someone on social media.
    2. Rumor Spreading: Spreading false information or rumors about someone to damage their reputation.
    3. Threats: Sending messages that threaten someone's safety or well-being.
    4. Invasion of Privacy: Publishing personal information or photos without permission.
    5. Account Hacking: Hacking someone's social media or email account to access or change their personal information.
    6. Identity Fraud: Impersonating someone else to mislead or deceive others.
    7. Trolling: Leaving comments or messages that are provocative and disturbing with the aim of causing a negative reaction.
    8. Use of Images or Videos: Using or modifying someone's image or video in an embarrassing or threatening manner.

 

Steps to Avoid Being a Victim of Cyber ​​Bullying

1. Set High Privacy:
Use strict privacy settings on your social media accounts to control who can see and interact with you.
2. Do Not Share Personal Information:
Avoid sharing personal information such as addresses, phone numbers, or financial information online.
3. Save Evidence:
Keep evidence of bullying such as screenshots of harassing messages or comments as evidence if a report is necessary.
4. Report and Block:
Use the report and block functions on social media platforms to report harassing users and prevent them from contacting you.
5. Use Strong Passwords:
Make sure your password is hard to guess and change it regularly to prevent account hacking.
6. Don't Reply:
Do not respond to bullying messages or comments. Sometimes, your reaction can encourage the bully to continue to harass.
7. Tell a Trusted Adult:
If you experience cyberbullying, tell a trusted adult such as a parent, teacher, or school counselor.
8. Self-Education on Cyber ​​Security:
Continue to educate yourself about online risks and how to protect yourself from cyber threats.
9. Use Content Filtering Tools:
Use content filtering software or tools that can help block or filter messages that contain inappropriate words.

By taking these steps, you can reduce the risk of becoming a victim of cyberbullying and protect your well-being in the online environment.
