TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE USE OF MOBILE TECHNOLOGY

WHILE the world is still hit by the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, the community is upset because various activities as before could not be implemented, especially when the PKP was implemented.

The COVID-19 catastrophic situation has affected the whole world, including Malaysia. For example, the PKP period has been extended until 14 April 2020.

However, people's activities can be increased by generating activities in the house during crises by using their mobile hardware as well as wireless network networking facilities.

This is because almost every Malaysian has their own smartphone without the need to purchase additional hardware.

For formal learning, people can take the opportunity to use social media platforms using their mobile hardware such as using a smartphone, or Tablet.

While teenagers or adults who are still studying in Higher Education institutions can use mobile hardware for continuous learning for their work assignments.

For example, they can use the hardware to communicate through social media such as WhatsApp application, Telegram to communicate with friends and lecturers.

Students can share information through social media to submit work especially using public platforms such as the use of Padlet or Google Drive applications.

Next, students can develop video assignment content using applications such as PowToon, Filmora or Movie Maker.

While the lecturers can use the online platform to conduct meetings or discussions with students with the availability of wireless network for applications such as Zoom or Skype from their homes.

While employers and employees can interact using mobile technology services, update documents and share information along with their latest job status.

Citizens can benefit by using open source platforms through mobile hardware to read and gain new knowledge during the COVID-19 outbreak season by reducing movement outside the home and spending time more effectively.

For example they can sign up for free to the e-learning platform via mobile hardware.

Among the platforms available from Udemy and Coursera are providing free courses for students to study and review subjects related to subjects or other life skills from various subjects using video.

While for informal courses in particular can be applied through learning using mobile technology through various social media channels.

Families such as moms and dads at home can learn new knowledge such as cooking, gardening, financial management, health information, diet and exercise methods by using social media such as YouTube.

While grandparents and children and grandchildren, siblings, relatives and friends can communicate through social media Skype or Zoom and communicate digitally using mobile technology.

Many tutorials on using these social media applications can be accessed from YouTube.

For those who need religious material, it can be accessed easily and quickly from their smartphones. Such as the scriptures according to their respective religions for example to access the Quran and Hadith.

There are also books and novels that can be read using mobile technology. Newspaper production companies for example from the NSTP digital newspaper are given free to daily newspaper readers to keep abreast of current issues.

For early children, apart from watching movies and opening game-based applications, they can also take the opportunity to learn through mobile applications and social media such as learning Language, Counting, Learning Coding with the help of their parents.

This critical situation makes it difficult for people to move to get necessities such as food.

So the service through e-commerce can be utilized to buy food online without having to go to the supermarket and can avoid crowds.

Financial matters such as bill payment and money transfer can be done through the use of the Bank's online services without having to go to the place and location concerned.

The people can also use social media such as Telegram, Instagram, Facebook, provided by the National Security Council (MKN) and the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) by providing authentic information and the latest data on the status of COVID-19.

Similarly, the people should be aware of the importance of checking the authenticity of information received or disseminated in accordance with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Content Act under Section 211 of the Multimedia and Communications Act.

Accessing information as discussed above requires a large amount of data.

However, the government together with the Telco needs to look at the implementation of flat rates for mobile phones which have long been implemented by developed countries such as Australia.

Where there is unlimited data access for postpaid plans especially for IPT students and the general public in Malaysia.

If it is implemented this will be able to help the people by reducing the cost of spending the people to pay a high price of data access subscription every month and it is able to facilitate unlimited data access.

There are also rural areas that do not have uniform and good internet access. Therefore, the internet network needs to improve the quality of communication to make it easier for the people to access data more effectively and quickly.

While the use of applications through mobile technology can be used by those who have skills and shared knowledge with those who need knowledge to use it for example the use of e-commerce applications, the use of multimedia materials to take, edit photos, audio and video.

Therefore, it is very important through the generation of people's activities through the use of their own mobile technology can be fully utilized during PKP as a more effective and quality way of filling time.
